Terry Cannon is a self-taught artist who began creating whimsical images as a child. His work reflects gratitude in being a participant in the journey of life. "I believe we each have our gifts from the creator…and it takes courage to discover and honor these gifts. I feel completely connected to a higher power when I am making art, and I love it when people react to my work with smiles and laughter. It reminds me that we are all connected."

Terry's life has come full circle. As a child he was constantly creating. As he entered his teenage years he began to doubt the worth of his creative visions. "I began to tell myself I was wasting time painting and drawing…so I just quit." Terry attempted to fill this emptiness with alcohol and drugs, leading him through prison and living on the street. In 1989 Terry almost died, and from this experience he gained a spiritual awareness which led to his reunion with his creative expression.

The paintings of Terry Cannon are a synthesis of acrylic, oil and epoxy over thickly layered gesso. This original mix of media lends itself to Terry's vibrant works . . . alive with color and texture.

"The creative process for me is inspiration, intuition, and improvisation. An image comes to me, and I allow creativity to flow through me. I share the belief of many artists that I am merely the vessel. The colors, textures, and images in my work are a constant source of surprise and wonder to me. I would say that the main statement I wish to convey through my art is that life is a magnificent gift, and I am so very grateful to be a participant."

His work is included in the permanent collections of the Mennello Museum of American Art in Orlando FL, the 2006 HGTV Dream Home in Asheville NC, the Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, TN. His work is a part of numerous private collections including those of TN Governer Phil Bredeson, Florida Sec of State Glenda Hood, Owner and Ceo of Maker's Mark Bourbon, T. W. Samuels of Louisville, KY, the Rita and John Lowndes Shakespeare Theatre, and many others.
